I wanted to start with a recognition of my gratitude for your hard work and commitment to our students. We are all grateful.
Please share with your staff, front-line workers, and administrators our thanks for the professionalism demonstrated as we respond to this challenge.
I know thoughtful planning and careful preparation has been underway to support the safe reopening of our schools. Whether your schools have started, are starting today or in the upcoming weeks, your teams are inspiring your province and instilling confidence in our students.
We are proud of the efforts of school board members, educators, school staff, parents and students to keep our communities and province healthy and safe.
Constant and immediate communication to parents, educators, and students is key. That is why we are arming students and parents with the tools to help make schools safer for everyone. This year, we provided educational resources developed with our partners at TVO and TFO along with the Hospital for Sick Children and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, following the advice of Canada’s leading medical and scientific experts - including the Chief Medical Officer of Health. As we return to school safely, I want to emphasize that mental health is very important for our students and likewise our staff. I want students, staff and educators to know that they are supported. We have doubled mental health funding to boards to ensure that you have access to the supports you need when you need them. We have also worked with our partners at School Mental Health Ontario who have developed resources for educators, students, and parents and families to support student mental health during the return to school.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership. Let us continue to work in partnership in the interest of our students, our staff, and their families.
